The project covers a 14 km section and a further 10 km section of the 125 km long railway line between Rishikesh and Karanprayag in the province of Uttarakhand, India.
The 24 km long railway project contains 4 tunnels with a total length of 19.5 km.
It is a double tube railway tunnels constructed by New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). Cross sectional area of the tunnels is between 42 m²and 143 m². The minimum excavation area is between 59 m² and 257 m².
Different tunnel sections are used along the tunnel as 3-line and 2-line.
In the second package there are two tunnels of 6,090 m and 6,657 m length and in the 5. package two tunnels of 2,869 m and 4,067 m length.
